Imagine a professional clothing designer assisting
you in creating your own stylish, yet comfortable
wardrobe. Our Fashion Design Safari includes personal
fashion consultation, wardrobe building and design
concepts, pattern modification, fabric selection,
and hands-on sewing instruction.
Many women fear they'd be hauled away by the fashion
police if they dared wear something homemade. Yet
Bev Sanders, founder of Manifesta Corporation, and
designer Loes Hinse, have teamed up to offer women
a chance to design and create clothing that is unique,
personal, and dazzling. In less than a week, women
at any level of experience will produce an outfit
uniquely suited to their attributes and lifestyle.
The popular television show Project Runway, demonstrates
a high-pressure pace of fashion design. Now imagine
the excitement of fashion design, without the pressure,
competition and judgment. Add in new friends, strolls
on the beach, shopping and still have time for Chardonnay
breaks.
Loes Hinse is a clothing designer, owner of
the Loes Hinse clothing and accessory boutique in
Carmel-by-the-Sea where she also sells her patterns
and favorite fabrics. A native of the Netherlands,
Loes studied fashion design in Europe where she honed
her cosmopolitan sense of style and vast knowledge
of fabrics and process. She then applied her skill
to the ready-to-wear market as is apparent in her
timeless, but modern designs. Loes explains "It's
about allowing yourself the freedom and confidence
to create. Visualize an outfit with soft, feminine
shapes and simple lines that are easy to mix and match
with fabrics that are unique and beautiful. Then give
yourself permission to make it."
The workshop begins with a personal fashion
consultation, where you'll get honest expert advice
on what to wear, what not to wear and wardrobe building
concepts. Loes will advise you on what styles, shapes
and colors you should be wearing based on your body
type, coloring, lifestyle and personality.
Next you'll chose a pattern from Loes' own easy to
make designs and you'll learn how to modify and personalize
your pattern. You'll choose fabric that expresses
your style from Loes' wide assortment. An allowance
for patterns and fabric are included. The construction
phase will begin demonstrations on cutting, sewing
and finishing (a serger or overlock machine finishes
and trims raw edges all at once for a professional
look). You'll be coached through the construction
of your garment all the way through to the end and
Loes will reveal techniques and shortcuts that are
used throughout the fashion industry. You'll have
time to make at least one outfit, more if you are
already a skilled seamstress. For the finale, the
new designers will show off their special creations
at the Fashionista runway show amid camera flashes
and applause of classmates.
No. Some sewing experience is helpful, but
not necessary. Loes teaches the easiest most efficient
